TORONTO – CANADIAN COUNCIL OF IMAMS (CCI) VEHEMENTLY DENOUNCES ISIL KILLINGS AND ATTACKS IN PARIS AND AROUND THE WORLD

With deep shock and inexpressible sorrow, we, the Canadian Council of Imams, send our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims of last Friday’s attacks in Paris, Beirut and Iraq. The ongoing acts of pure madness and terrorism by ISIL break every single law and principle of Islam, even if these war criminals claim to adhere to it.  ISIL has a bloodthirsty, immoral agenda and has clearly shown the world that it is separate from the Islamic faith, reality and humanity. Regardless of our different faiths, ethnicities and nationalities, all peoples must unite and stand strong against these aggressions. The actions of ISIL are a war against humanity and our fundamental values.

CCI and its members unanimously consider ISIL as Khawarij (a defected group that emerged in the time of Caliph of Islam Ali Bin Abi Talib in the seventh century CE). Since that time Muslim scholars – by consensus – excommunicated them due to their dangerous views and cruel ways that are devoid of basic human values and principles. CCI expresses its total refusal of such ideology under the name of Islam.

CCI reaffirms our unequivocal belief in the sanctity of every life and in the criminalization of the acts of those who kill, injure or harm innocent civilians. This is a cardinal principle in the religion of Islam and cannot be compromised. On numerous occasions in the past, the Canadian Council of Imams has declared its position against ISIL, innocent killing of lives and the notion of armed conflict in the name of Islam and our unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Canada. In the last two years, we have been releasing and posting statements against ISIL publicly and on our website and even before that through a number of declarations against deviant and violent ideologies and those who support them.

We pray to God Almighty to give us strength, courage and love for peace and humanity.

Sirs, I strongly support and welcome your statement condemning the barbaric acts conducting by ISIS in the name of Islam and find your condemnation a clear step in the right direction.
I would like to very respectfully ask some questions to get a better understanding of the councils position on issues if I may?
Do you believe that Canada should implement or allow Sharia law within its borders or do you believe that the laws of Canada should be recognized by all Canadians as the only law of the land?
Do you think that all Imams around the world need to raise their collective voices in unison and make it clear to their congregations that non muslims should be respected as equals within islam just as muslims should be respected as equals within all societies and that religion is simply a personal belief that should not be forced upon others?
Given the ever increasing number of videos which show imams preaching hateful sermons to their followers such as those by Anjem Choudary in the UK who continually calls non muslims “infidels” and “Kuffars’ and promotes segregation. Does the council not believe that imams around the world need to publically counter these views and promote integration as a way for people to coexist better?
Finally, does the council not feel that communities would better integrate if the followers of all religions and athiests we encouraged to celebrate and respect each others religious festivals and traditions such as Eid, Hannukah, Christmas etc……? It seems crazy to me that shops and businesses are so focused on being politically correct that they no longer are comfortable putting up signs saying “Merry Christmas” in case it offends. Surely the council must think this is ridiculous as I would certainly not be offended to wish somebody Happy Ramadan or if somebody wished it to me as that would simply mean they were wishing me well.
I look forward to your response

AND YET YOU STILL TEACH HOMOPHOBIA……….AND YET YOU FEEL MEN HAVING SEX WITH BOYS IS OK, AND MEN DANCING WITH OTHER MEN, AND MEN KISSING OTHER MEN ON THE LIPS. WHILE YOU TELL THEM YOUR INVISIBLE FRIEND IS NOT WATCHING,, I AM AMAZED YOU CAN TELL WHETHER HE IS OR NOT. WE CONSIDER THIS GAY OR HOMO BEHAVIOR, AND ACCORDING TO YOUR RULES ………I WOULD GUESS CLIFF DIVING WILL BECOME A MUSLIM SPORT.

SAYING THERE ARE GOOD MUSLIMS AND BAD MUSLIMS MAKES YOU LOOK AS STUPID AS SAYING THERE ARE GOOD CANADIANS AND BAD CANADIANS ………THERE ARE ONLY CANADIANS…….NOT MUSLIM CANADIANS……OR GREEN ONES OR BLUE ONES…….JUST CANADIANS, AND JUST MUSLIMS …DEAL WITH YOUR ANGER TO SOME OF YOUR MEMBERS….., BUT THIS IS ISLAM AND ITS FOLLOWERS , YOU MADE THE DECISION NOT ME………SO WHY WOULD I CARE……….TO ME ALL MUSLIMS ARE THE SAME…..BY CHOICE.
