Canada's Muslims mourn the loss of community pioneer Dr. Rahmeth Shah Khan

The Muslim community in Toronto and beyond mourns the passing of a remarkable pioneer, Dr. Rahmeth Shah Khan.

Dr. Khan's journey began in Canada in 1967, and his dedication to the community blossomed from there.

After earning his PhD from the University of Toronto, he became a driving force behind the establishment of key organizations like the Muslim Students' Association (MSA) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA).

His commitment extended to the University of Toronto Muslim Community, SISO Islamic School, and the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, where he actively contributed his time and energy.

A lasting legacy of his dedication is the establishment of the Jumuah prayer at Hart House, University of Toronto, over 50 years ago, a spiritual cornerstone that continues to serve the community today.

He leaves behind a loving family: his wife, five children, and nineteen grandchildren, who will deeply feel his absence.

The Janazah prayer will be held at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto on Saturday, April 5th, after the Zuhr prayer, followed by interment at the Toronto Muslim Cemetery (13076 Leslie Street, Richmond Hill).

We humbly pray that Allah (SWT) showers Dr. Rahmeth Shah Khan with His infinite mercy and forgiveness, and grants him a place in the highest levels of Jannah. May Allah grant his family strength, patience, and solace during this time of profound sorrow.
