A life imbued with generosity, compassion and resilience
It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of loss, we announce the passing of a true humble friend to humanity, Abdul Hameed Shaikh (husband to Saleha, father of Shahid and Wajeda), who returned to the embrace of the Most Merciful on Friday August 25, 2023.
Hameed Shaikh's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, exceptional leadership, and profound dedication to serving humanity. His journey was adorned with accomplishments that have left an everlasting mark on the community and hearts of those he touched.
As the first Executive Director of the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF), Hameed Shaikh's impact extended across borders and cultures. His visionary leadership paved the way for humanitarian aid, sustainable development, and relief efforts in regions facing adversity. His legacy lives on through the countless lives transformed by his selfless dedication to alleviating suffering and promoting social welfare.
Hameed’s devotion to his faith and community was exemplified through his many roles, including his position as an founding member and Treasurer of the Council of Muslim Canadian Communities (CMCC).
His dedication to nurturing the next generation’s connection with their faith was particularly evident in his instrumental involvement in establishing a Muslim Camp for Youth. This project provided a nurturing environment where young muslims could flourish spiritually, intellectually, and socially, guiding them toward a path of righteousness and service.
His compassionate heart and a deep commitment to community well-being led Hameed Shaikh to become a founding member of Rehma Community Services. Through this initiative, he tirelessly worked to provide support, empowerment, and care to those facing challenges within the community.
Among his many accomplishments was his role in developing the Hamilton Mosque and Muslim Association. His dedication to creating a sacred space for worship and community engagement was truly transformative. The Hamilton Mosque stands as a testament to his vision of unity, spirituality, and education.
As we bid farewell to our dear brother, father, husband and grandfather, let us remember his exceptional contributions to our community. Hameed’s life was a reflection of the teachings of Islam – a life imbued with generosity, compassion, and resilience. May Allah (SWT) envelop him in His mercy and grant him a place amongst the righteous in Jannah.
We ask Allah to grant patience to his family, friends, and all those mourning his departure.
May his legacy inspire us to continue his noble work, uplift others, and walk the path of selfless service that he has so beautifully demonstrated.
May Allah bless his soul, accept his good deeds, and grant him eternal peace. Ameen.
