Giving Tuesday Taking Action
#GivingTuesday - a holiday intended to benefit nonprofit organizations like Nisa Homes. An organization providing safe, transitional homes and support services for women and children who are fleeing domestic violence, homelessness or seeking asylum. With the on-set of the Pandemic, the organization experienced a heightened intake of women and children fleeing domestic violence across Canada, with recently opened homes in Halifax & Hamilton.
On this #GivingTuesday, Nisa Homes is taking action. “As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, we are hosting workshops across Canada to work towards eradicating abuse through education, awareness and prevention." Nisa Homes states, in an effort to gather audiences across Canada.
Nisa Homes' national workshop addresses Domestic Violence in the Muslim community, specifically, and is urging community leaders to become allies for change. It will also address cultural & religious misconceptions, following it up with steps participants can take to help. Upon completion of the training, Participants will receive a certificate.
"‘Domestic violence in the Muslim community’ - a taboo topic that is typically avoided but it’s time we address it in a direct and healthy conversation!" - Isna Canada mentioned as they shared their eagerness to collaborate and host one of the many nationwide workshops.
