Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey hosts Eid celebration

Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey hosted an Eid dinner and reception on Thursday at Brampton City Hall.

“To all our Muslim brothers and sisters in Brampton and around the world, I wish for a happy and peaceful Eid al-Fitr,” said Mayor Jeffrey.

Muslims leaders thanked the Mayor for hosting the celebration.

“Thanks a lot Mayor Linda Jeffrey for another wonderful Eid dinner and reception at Brampton city hall,” said Dr. Hamid Slimi, Imam of the Sayeda Khadija Centre.

“This past month, I had the privilege of attending several Iftar dinners, and listening to people’s experiences over Ramadan,” said Mayor Jeffrey in her Eid message to the community. “I learned about the strength and perseverance it takes to observe fast all day, and every day. I hope this Ramadan has brought peace and gratitude in to your life.”

“Sadly, this year’s Ramadan has been plagued with random acts of violence in many countries across the world and attacks on holy sites,” added the Mayor. “These senseless acts further prove that terrorism has no religion.”

“It deeply saddens me to hear about the unfortunate loss of loved ones in those cities,” she said. “May their souls rest in peace. Along with all Bramptonians, I stand by my Muslim community during these challenging times.”

“To all our Muslim brothers and sisters in Brampton and around the world, I wish for a happy and peaceful Eid. May this day be filled with joy as you celebrate and strengthen your ties with your families and friends.“

“On behalf of my colleagues on Council and all our residents, Eid Mubarak!”
