Toronto Muslims serve holiday meal to needy
(January 2, 2015) – The Muslim Welfare Centre served a holiday lunch to the needy in Toronto’s Regent Park neighborhood on Sunday, December 28.
‘We’re serving the needy of Regent Park with a wonderful holiday lunch including desserts and refreshments,” Firaaz Azeez of the Muslim Welfare Centre told IQRA.ca. “We are also distributing winter coats and warm clothing to children and adults.”
“To make the occasion fun, we are having face painting, henna decorations and gifts.”
The lunch marked the third month of the Muslim Welfare Centre’s “Regent Meals” program that is held weekly with the Toronto Christian Resource Centre (CRC).
Muslim Welfare Centre is a non-profit organization with 3 locations in Ontario and 1 in Quebec.
The Centre’s purpose is to help the less fortunate in the community irrespective of their religion, nationality, caste or creed. Their motto is ‘Service to Humanity is Service to Allah.’
“Charitable giving is a central tenet to both Christianity and Islam,” added Azeez. “This program allows our faith communities to come together to help people in need.”
