Relief agency provides Qurbani meat to Toronto shelters and food banks

Making delivery of Qubani meat to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter

(October 1, 2015) – Northern Lights Relief Foundation, a Toronto-based relief agency recently delivered Qurbani meat across the city to women’s shelters and food banks to mark Eid Al-Adha. Eid Al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, was celebrated by Muslims on September 24.

The Qurbani meat were delivered by Northern Lights Relief Foundation to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter, North York Women’s Shelter, Muslim Welfare Centre locations in Scarborough and Mississauga, and Flemingdon Community Food Bank.

During Eid Al-Adha, Muslims offer the Qurbani or Udhiyah sacrifice, a ritual that reminds them of the great act of sacrifice Prophet Ibrahim and his son Isma`eel were willing to make for the sake of God.

Flemingdon Community Food Bank receives donation

A financially able Muslim sacrifices a sheep, or goat or shares with six others in sacrificing a cow as an act of worship during the four-day `Eid Al-Adha.

Northern Lights Relief Foundation is a non-profit organization that brings together teams of volunteers to collaborate on humanitarian aid and relief efforts.

The teams provide an array of support, offering to assist financially, emotionally, and physically with the needs of families and communities. The foundation collects, delivers and distributes supplies and resources to families, individuals and institutions.
