Religious communities share fast-breaking meal

(August 21, 2011) –  Turkish families who live within Scarborough and North York came together with members of the community of Parkwoods United Church in North York, Toronto for a Ramadan Iftar (fast-breaking) dinner on Wednesday, August 10th and for an evening of interfaith dialogue.

The participants enjoyed a delicious homemade Turkish meal and desert.

After the dinner, both communities came together around tables for conversation.

Their honest discussions led to a deepening of mutual understanding, trust, and a lasting friendship.

The Intercultural Dialog Institute (IDI)-Toronto, a co-sponsor of the event, aims to create a positive environment for people to talk frankly as friends in the same neighborhood, and to explore their concerns with living together in a safe and constructive environment.

IDI-Toronto would like to thank the community of Parkwoods United Church for hosting this special Iftar dinner initiative.
