Family Day Walkathon supports Credit Valley Hospital

(February 16, 2011) – Muslims in Peel have organized a charity Walkathon on Sunday, February 20 to raise funds for the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.

The Family Day Walkathon is sponsored by ICNA Canada (Peel Chapter) and it is endorsed by the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation as part of its Lifetime of Care – $45 million campaign.

“The purpose of the walkathon, besides raising funds for the charity, is to raise awareness of the unfortunate deteriorating situation of our family structure because of factors such as high rate of divorce, single parents raising children, domestic violence, teenage pregnancies, youth gangs, youth on drugs and so on,” states ICNA in a press release.

The program will start with a walk followed by short presentations focusing on family values.

“We are grateful that ICNA Canada [Peel Chapter] has chosen to support our hospital,” said Kathy Hay, President and CEO, The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation. “This investment is in our future. Together, we are caring for our friends, our neighbors and our family by providing first-class health care closer to home.”

The Credit Valley Hospital is currently raising funds to build a 270,000 square foot facility. This expansion will see the growth of Palliative Care Centre, Regional Maternal Child Centre and Regional Genetics and Laboratory. In addition to the expansion of these critical programs the hospital is also adding more beds to help alleviate the congestion in the Emergency Room.
