David Suzuki keynotes launch of Muslim Scouting Fellowship

(March 2, 2011) – David Suzuki, well-known Canadian personality and world renowned environmental activist, will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker at a fundraiser to launch the Canadian Muslim Fellowship of Scouting (CMFoS).

“This is an incredible opportunity to share an evening with Dr. David Suzuki, one of our treasured Canadian Elders, who deeply and passionately cares about the future of our Earth and our children up to the seventh generation,” said Dawood Zwink, CMFoS Convenor and Community Development Worker for Greater Toronto Council / Scouts Canada.

The event is sponsored by the Scout Groups of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and will be held on Saturday, March 19 starting at 7 pm at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, 10268 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill.

David Suzuki, whose keynote lecture is titled “A Conversation with PeaceMakers of the Earth”, is the Co-Founder of the David Suzuki Foundation. He is renowned for his radio and television programs that explain the complexities of the natural sciences in a compelling, easily understood way.

Muhammad Lila of the CBC will be Masters of Ceremonies of the evening’s program.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will promote and support Scouting in Muslim Communities across Canada through the launch of the Canadian Muslim Fellowship of Scouting (CMFoS).

“Scouting is a vital program that not only provides fun, challenging and exciting activities for growing young people. It is also a valuable resource to help them develop self discipline, life skills, the values of excellence, and the qualities of responsible citizenship,” according to the new organization’s web site.

David Suzuki will be celebrating his 75th birthday on March 24th and, in recognition of his contribution, the David Suzuki Foundation has launched an online campaign to support the Foundation’s work to protect the diversity of nature and our quality of life.

Tickets for the event are $75.00 each and may be obtained by calling 905-787-8811 or online at www.rhcentre.ca.
